HCL ushers a new era of Blue Growth in the Western Mediterranean

This project is about: promoting sustainable development within the blue economy of the Western Mediterranean Sea basin, by addressing the needs and requests of stakeholders for guidance on blue economy financing, investments in blue growth, project development, and creating valuable networks. EU funded.

Context: Blue Growth is the long term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole. Seas and oceans are drivers for the European economy and have great potential for innovation and growth. In the same vein, the concept of Blue Growth and a Blue Economy is gaining traction worldwide, and HCL/ Pescares is a front-runner in the policy and programming shift, by pushing forward coordination of all the involved sectors, and enhancing cooperation among policy actors nationally and regionally.
Timeline: 2018 - 2022
  €Contract value: 2,799,226 EUR

HCL is actively engaged in a collaborative venture, the "Assistance Mechanism for the Western Mediterranean Sea basin (AMWM)," which brings together both EU and non-EU nations that share the same sea: Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia

With a wealth of experience drawn from various geographic regions, such as the Baltic Sea, the Adriatic-Ionian, and the Atlantic area, AMWM is poised to share knowledge and insights on maritime strategies at regional, national, and European levels. The project's ultimate goal is to facilitate access to funding for blue economy activities. A practical, step-by-step guide tailored for national and local governments, environmental units, decision-makers, the private sector, and civil society actors is developed to support the implementation of blue growth initiatives.

Support extends to public and private organizations, research institutions, universities, institutional and private investors, and various stakeholders invested in strategic initiatives for blue growth in the Western Mediterranean Basin. The project achieves this by fostering proactive collaboration among the European Commission, the Steering Committee, Member States, partner countries, the UfM Secretariat, and other relevant stakeholders, all working together to usher in a new era of blue growth in the region.
